Brantley Conner, 14, died from injuries sustained when he was struck by a Dayton ISD school bus driven by Ricky Eugene Cherry on October 16, 2026, near U.S. Highway 90 and Stilson Road in Dayton. The driver allegedly left the scene without stopping to help the boy, who was a pedestrian and not a student passenger on the bus.
Harris County reported more than 230,000 in-person and mail-in ballots cast through Monday, Oct 19, 2026 and Tuesday, Oct 20, 2026 of the first week of early voting in October 2026, nearly doubling the 144,000 ballots cast during the same period in the 2022 midterms. A man died after an altercation with family members that turned physical, resulting in him hitting his head on the pavement in northwest Houston on Saturday, October 24, 2026. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A lawn crew discovered skeletal remains in a brushy area of a vacant lot at 4477 W. Sam Houston Parkway North on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026. Houston Police Department homicide detectives are investigating, and shoes and other clothing articles were found on and near the remains.
The City of Houston began its annual Pumpkin Compost Drop-Off Program on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, allowing residents to dispose of pumpkins for free at two locations through Nov. 28, 2026. The program has diverted more than 63,000 pounds of organic material from landfills since 2022.
