The grid, the price, and who pays

Read straight from ERCOT's own data every 15 minutes: the grid's status and reserves, what power costs in the Houston zone, and every price spike. Plus CenterPoint's outages, the rate and storm-cost cases on your bill, and the bills and money behind them.

Houston power prices

The wholesale price of electricity in the Houston load zone, in dollars per megawatt-hour, every 15 minutes. It is what retail electric companies pay for the power they sell you, and what power plants are paid. A "spike" here is any 15-minute interval at or above $1,000.

Last 24 hours. Highest: $50.15.

Rate cases and storm charges

CenterPoint Houston's charges are set in cases at the Public Utility Commission. Storm repair costs are turned into bonds that customers repay through a line on every bill. These are the cases on file, with the newest filings in each, read daily from the PUC.

Docket 56211: CenterPoint Houston base rate case

Application for authority to change rates

Docket 57271: May 2024 storm restoration costs

System restoration costs for the May 2024 storms

Docket 57559: May 2024 storm cost financing

Financing order to securitize the May 2024 storm costs

Docket 58028: Beryl, Francine and Enzo storm costs

Determination of system restoration costs; filed May 2, 2025, about $1.295 billion requested, estimated $2.13 a month at 1,000 kWh

Docket 58252: Beryl storm cost bonds

Financing order (Oct. 23, 2025) behind $1,193,474,000 in system restoration bonds sold in February 2026

Docket 59825: Transmission cost charge (TCRF), 2026

Transmission cost recovery factor update

Docket 59981: Distribution cost charge (DCRF), 2026

Distribution cost recovery factor update

Docket 57980: Temporary emergency generation (TEEEF)

Temporary emergency electric energy facilities cost recovery

Docket figures are from the PUC filings themselves and CenterPoint's bond offering filed with the SEC. CenterPoint's current tariff book lists every charge, including the system restoration charges.

New big loads on the grid

ERCOT reports its large-load connection queue by load zone in board and committee slides, and it groups Houston with the North and South zones rather than breaking it out. The data centers and other large loads being built around Houston are tracked one by one in the Data Center Tracker, with their megawatts, tax breaks and water.

Grid bills at the Capitol

No grid bills filed or passed since the site started reading the Legislature's daily lists. Bill filing for the 2027 session opens in November 2026; bills about electricity, ERCOT, utilities and the PUC show up here the day they are filed.
